Residency by Investment

Europe's most quietly powerful residence, with a path to citizenship in five years.

Europe's most quietly powerful residence, with a path to citizenship in five years.

A regulated fund subscription secures residence rights across Portugal with only seven days of physical presence required each year. After five years of lawful residence, naturalisation opens the door to full European Union citizenship.

Why Portugal

Portugal remains the only European route that combines a genuinely low presence requirement with naturalisation after five years, which is why it continues to set the benchmark the rest of the continent is measured against. Reform in 2023 closed the residential property route and pushed capital towards regulated funds, making adviser selection more consequential than it has ever been.

Benefits

  • Visa-free movement throughout the Schengen Area

Hampton & Kent and Portugal

Our Portugal desk files through licensed local counsel and owns the mandate from the first conversation to the document in hand. We do not hold client investment capital, and government contributions are paid directly to the relevant state account. Where Portugal is not the right instrument for a family, we say so before any fee is discussed.

Programme terms are set by the government of Portugal and change without notice. Nothing on this page constitutes legal or tax advice.
